I had a glorious day today. It was a recharge day. I'm back to full happy!
Let me share it with you!
I climbed my way up to Lily's top bunk and snuggled with her this morning. We had some girl chat. And then Dad rushed us downstairs so they could head to Guelph for his much anticipated guys-day (kids were spending the day with grandparents).
After they left, I took a shower. Like a real one -- it was longer than 3 minutes. Much longer. And then I pulled out the hair dryer and a big round brush. Oh yes, I did. I styled my hair.
I made myself a delicious cup of Chocosol coffee and caught the bus to Roncesvalles to eat brunch at Barque Smokehouse. Pulled pork eggs benedict on cornbread. I ate slowly. I had wonderful conversation with friends. We talked about summer sun, biking, and wineries.
After parting ways, I meandered south until I got to Parkdale. I had three missions in Parkdale:
- Check out the Paper + Cloth pop-up shop for some washi tape, wrapping paper, and brush tip pens,
- Hit up Designer Fabrics for flower girl dress accessories,
- Visit the workroom because I miss Karyn and her beautiful shop.
I had a lovely chat with Rowena, the brains behind Paper + Cloth. She has 5 kids. FIVE. Okay, that's not the only thing I learned about her. The pop-up shop was so sweet and beautifully curated. She put a lot of love into it. And she has 5 kids! Those kids are lucky. Their mom is pretty incredible. I spent an hour hunched over washi tape and couldn't decide on the fancy ones so I grabbed a handful of fun basics. I also found the elusive Pentel Touch brush tip pens. Suddenly I'm awesome at brush lettering.
Designer Fabrics is always a hit and miss for me. Sometimes I get the feeling they just want me to leave so they can get on with their day. Today turned out to be really great! The lady in the trim department peppered me with questions until I told her what I was looking for, then she pulled out a dozen things and I picked two! Boom. Done. If all goes well, I'll have a sample flower girl dress to show you in a week.
My last stop was at the workroom. It's such a special place for me. I love supporting the shop. I love saying hi to the staff (even though I don't recognize anyone anymore!) and their new space is so big that I can park myself on their couch by the bright windows and just work away on my Wildabon without feeling like I'm disturbing. I treated myself to Janine's new Encyclopedia of Inspiration: Stitchillo.
Before leaving Parkdale, I grabbed a smoothie from Revitasize for the bus ride home.
At home, I wrapped three presents with fancy paper. I vacuumed the house. I watered the experimental lentil plants. I warmed up some Marcello's leftovers and watched the beginning of Moana. And just like that, it was 8pm. I got a call from Dustin and girls to say they were heading home from Guelph. They were so excited to say hi to me. I was excited to give them all hugs.
This morning when Lily and I were chatting, I told her it was a new day because yesterday was not great for me and I wanted to start again. She asked me about my coworker who caused me so much grief, "Did you try tell her that she was being mean?" and I almost laughed and cried all in one breath. I'm a big advocate of direct communication; I tell Lily all the time to be direct, be clear, be honest. It turns out, she heard me. I think it's all we can do to control hurtful situations. After that, it's up to the other party to do their part. And then a me-day to recharge the batteries.
I'm almost as good as new. xo.
